How do I change my tire?

When it comes to the Jeep® service that you can rely on, no one performs better than Ilderton Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. We’re the High Point dealership, here to share tips and tricks for managing emergency car service between appointments, like changing tires on the go.

HOW DO I CHANGE A TIRE?

Knowing how to change a tire can be incredibly useful, and Ilderton Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram is here to help. With these simple steps, you’ll get your new tire on and your vehicle back out on the road driving around Greensboro, Winston Salem and High Point in no time.

  • Get to Safety: If you notice your vehicle has a flat tire, get it to a safe location as quickly as possible. The flatter the surface, the better, when it comes to changing a tire.
  • Put it in Park: To avoid your vehicle rolling or moving during service, put it in park and employ the emergency brake. You may also want to check the tires.
  • Loosen the Lug Nuts: Many cars have a hubcap or cover. Remove this and then begin loosening the lug nuts, but don’t remove them all the way.
  • Jack Your Vehicle: Use your car’s manual to find the best place to put your jack. Then slowly lift the car about six inches off the ground, depending on the size of the tires.
  • Remove the Tire: Take the lug nuts off all the way and put them in a safe location. Then remove the tire and place it flat on the ground.
  • Replace the Tire: Put the new tire into place and then replace the lug nuts. Tighten them by hand to make sure the tire is in the right position.
  • Lower the Jack: Lower the jack so the tire touches the ground but maintains the vehicle’s weight. Then tighten your lug nuts all the way.
  • Remove the Jack and Replace the Hubcap: Put your tools away and hit the road in your new jeep.

We had so much fun shooting this video. Captivate Media came out to the dealership and brought to life this idea that our team had to play on our snack and coffee machine we have in our customer lounge. In the video our customer keeps coming back for the silliest reasons (What is the world is blinker fluid??) and our service advisor, Bobby, is bewildered. Finally asking why she is here yet again that week, she offers him a snack. Take a peek and let us know what you think and then come on for your car’s service and enjoy our comfortable waiting room with all the snacks and coffee.

Your car should receive regular maintenance to ensure it’s running properly and keeping you safe on the road. Maintaining proper tire pressure prevents prematurely wearing the tire down. Follow these tips to help you check your tire pressure and keep your car operating smoothly.

Learn the Recommended PSI Levels for Your Car

When checking the pressure and airing up your tires, you should know the psi levels that each of your tires needs. The amount of pressure depends on the make, model, and year of your car. You can find this information in your owner’s manual or on the inside of the door on the driver’s side. Once you determine the psi levels your tires require, use a tire gauge to check the air pressure. You can purchase a standard tire gauge at most auto shops.

Regularly Check the Air Pressure

When you’re ready to check the air pressure in your tire, remove its valve cap and press the gauge on the tire’s valve stem. Press down until you hear a hissing noise and then notice it quickly disappear. When this happens with a standard gauge, a bar will pop out of the bottom with measurements telling you how much air is in your tire. You can double-check this pressure to ensure it’s the correct measurement. If you’re using a digital gauge, you’ll see the amount appear on the screen.

It’s best to regularly check your tire pressure to ensure you’re not driving on low tires. Low tires can eventually turn into a flat tire and endanger you on the road. Driving on low tires can also wear them down, so the tires may not last as long as they should. This may cause you to purchase brand new tires, which can be costly. To prevent this, make sure you’re maintaining the correct psi levels in your tires by checking the air pressure at least once a month.

Remain Aware of Your Tire Pressure During Cold Weather

It’s important to double-check your tire pressure in the wintertime or in cold weather in general because the air pressure may drop one or two pounds per square inch of pressure when the temperature drops. When it’s cold outside, the air in your tire becomes denser, resulting in the pressure dropping. The low tire pressure and stiffened rubber from the cold air can also cause the tires to leak. Check the pressure in your tires twice a month during cold weather.

Keep Your Spare Tire Ready To Go

In addition to the main tires on your car, check the tire pressure on your spare tire as well in case you accidentally damage one of your tires on the road. Use your gauge to check the tire pressure in the spare at least a once month. Try to inspect it for any other damages as well, like wear on the tires or low tread.

Regularly caring for your vehicle can protect you from unwanted flat tires. It can also help you keep the tires for as long as possible without paying to replace them. Visit Ilderton Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram to talk to our professionals about proper tire maintenance tips and view our impressive lineup of quality vehicles. If your tires are ready to be replaced we can help you with that as well.
